A Bollywood Movie Review – October by Shoojit Sircar

On a Friday at 8 am I was extremely busy catching up on eight hours of sleep in mere five hours. Another wasted night of staring at my screen. My phone sprung to life as I saw my childhood friend’s name appear on the screen. I made the mistake of picking it up. “Get up we are going for a movie ” and I had no choice. In exactly ten minutes she was at my place ready to muscle me for a movie. Maybe I need to find a different group of friends. “Why are we doing this? I have a presentation at 1” I groaned. “We’ll be done by 12, hurry up!”

So I quickly changed my clothes, brushed, ate my breakfast and ran outside to find an auto. Now, I must say, normally I am not such an energetic improv girl. Neither is my friend. However, it had been days since I had spent time with her and I had bailed on too many plans before so I rushed along with this. “Which movie are we going for?”

“October”
“Which one?” I asked. She rolled her eyes and said
“It’s a Varun Dhawan film”
“You’re taking me to watch an action film in the morning?”
“No, check out the trailer it looks different”

So I did. It surely looked different. It looked rather….not Bollywoody. The storyline seemed interesting, of a girl that wakes up from an accident having forgotten everything and takes the name of just one boy. The boy is confused as to why she’s asking for him. It also looked like Varun Dhawan was trying something different so I relaxed. Alright, this can be interesting. However, I later realised the trailer wasn’t what the movie was about.

The Reasons I Don’t believe in fairytales. (A relatable poem)

This is a short poem written from the point of view of a girl that is finally growing up and how understanding the cliche’s of the world aren’t actual realities. How loving yourself is alot more important than finding someone to love you.

I hope you enjoy it!

sakshi 1 FINAL NEW WIDE

As a kid
I believed in fairytales
Where a prince would rescue me
And I would heal him
But reality struck hard
And no one came to save me
I got sick of playing the victim
And got myself out of the tall palace
As a kid
I believed in fairytales
Where a prince would injure himself
And I would heal him
But reality struck hard
And I realised the prince isn’t the only one with scars,
That I cannot heal anything
And He didnt want to always be healed
Much less he could never get rid of the scars
No matter what he took from me

What it felt like to win for the First Time, ever

My head was spinning a little, my legs felt like they would give in at any moment and between it all I felt like flying. Yet somehow  it all felt right.

It is a very weird emotion, you want to live in that moment forever but want it to end soon. So you can run and feed that hunger that begins growing in you with that happiness. It is like adrenaline. You want more and more of it.  This growing hunger screams ‘we need to get more of these medals’. This hunger slowly drives you insane but keeps you sane too.

I still remember that night. (Short Poem)

Man Looking Up At Stars

And I still remember that night

When the whole world had gone dark

Just little lights in little homes

Far far apart

I still remember how we had grabbed our tiny flashlights

And had flashed them on the lonely lifeless street

below our rusted black balcony
