To the Bestfriend, leaving to go abroad- Go get your dreams!

1 st September is Letter Writing Day, on the occasion,  I decided to write a letter to my best friend. I hope you all like the post and wish my bestfriend all the best on her journey!

Here We Go!

cover-2

Dear Bestfriend,

It’s only two weeks before you leave. Change is coming up ahead, as you know, I’ve always hated change.

Just a few years ago Letters were the only source of communication between two people living far away.

Between you and I, I know that even if we were living in those times of isolation- We’d still make it through the distance without any issues.

I knew that you’ll be leaving soon enough but accepting that fact is a very different thing. What is one supposed to do without their bestfriend? How do you choose clothes for parties and who do you call when you are lonely. I’ll learn soon enough I guess, but then so will you.

You are finally standing on your tippy toes, grabbing the stars you once dreamed so hard  of touching. You’ve starved for that experience, that place, that growth.

Things are finally going according to your plan and I couldn’t be prouder.

My heart wants to selfishly stop you, it wants to wrap its arms around you and make sure that you don’t go anywhere. But at the same time, it wants to let you go to live life and breathe on your own.

I really don’t want you to leave but I can never say those words out loud. They get stuck in my throat. It knows this was your dream. A dream that is finally coming true.

This is where you always wanted to go and I don’t want to be the one to stop you.

Time is going rather fast. The last two weeks were a breeze and I belive the next two will feel even shorter. I hope our time apart also feels this quick.

I hope when something good or bad happens you call me. I hope when people ask about the people you left back here, you mention me. I hope you find a hot foreigner for me. Even if you don’t I hope you find one for yourself. Better call me once you do.

Losing a bestfriend isn’t easy- but packing your entire world in just a bag sounds gruelling.

You are a strong person, always have been. I have no doubt in my mind that you’ll be great. But if you aren’t somedays, I want you to remember that I am just a facetime or a flight away. I want you to remember that when you are low or lonely you have friends on the other side of the world cheering for you and believing in you.

I want you to breathe and take in the strangeness, the beauty and experience it all. I want you to breathe out and let the fears, nostalgia and uncertainties go. I want you to let it all flow through you.

Our memories will stay strong in my mind and heart (Even though it sounds extremely cliched) I have no doubt about the fact that our friendship will survive through this. I mean come on, we’ve been through worse. Wayyy worse.

I have a full blown cold and my nose is running like the Niagra falls. You are going to start packing up soon and wave goodbye. I’ll stand by the airport , totally with no tears in my eyes, and proudly let you go.

My bestfriend is achieving her dream, how can I not be proud?

I hope you have the time of your life and we go shopping when I come there. I await stories of madness and adventure. I will stalk you on all social media platforms and send you ugly pictures for snap streaks. Basically, we’ll be okay.

Go on now and make me proud so I can scream about it to everyone about how my bestfriend is a badass.

Not that I need a reason for that 😉

  1. I smiled throughout the entirety of this post and kept having flashbacks of my own close friends. I wish her a success journey ahead and may the bond of your friendship grow stronger despite distance.

  2. Oh I love your letter! I’m not ashamed to say that I cried a little while reading it. ❤ Seriously, your writing is truly wonderful, is very emotional, sutil and powerful, I love it! I totally can relate to this letter and think about my best friend as well.

Years ago, I was the one who went to study far away, while she stay near our hometown. Although now I came back to work at home, and she will probably gonna moved to live to another city. We’ve know each other for almost 20 years now and I don’t know how we do it, we are so similar yet so different at the same time, but we always managed to comunicate, even if it is for talking of important stuff or nothing at all, it’s always the same, we always end up talking for like 3 or 4 hours, or even more. I believe that distance brought us more close together, because we’re both so curious that we wanted to know everything the other one did.

    Have a gorgeous day 🙂

    1. Oh my, comments like these make me believe that I can write. I really wish 20 years down the line I can say the same thing. For now, I am really nervous about it all and how it will turn out. I really don’t want to lose her and it feels like an arm being amputated. But I am sure we both will survive. And I believe in our bond. I hope distance gets us closer too. Thank you so much – for reading and commenting such a heartfelt comment. Thank you so much. 💖💖😊

  3. Well, I was the best friend going abroad to live my dreams and I wish I had my friends here with me everyday. I’ll have to leave my dream sooner than expected and am now planning moving to yet another country that isn’t home. What’s different this time? My besties and I are planning together and fingers crossed we will live abroad together soon. Home is indeed where your friends are!
